The prohibition of Eiver min Ha'chai begins at the moment of birth.
Its forbidden to eat from a living fetus which was born alive before its mother completed the period of gestation.
After a normal period of gestation, and when the fetus is healvy, it is forbidden to eat from the animal before killing it.
When the mother animal dies it is forbidden to eat from the live fetus until it is killed.
