Verdict on the Nations?
For September 26, 2022
Tehillim - Psalms 2:1
לָ֭מָּה רָגְשׁ֣וּ גוֹיִ֑ם וּ֝לְאֻמִּ֗ים יֶהְגּוּ־רִֽיק׃
"Why have nations gathered to threaten me, and why are these nations planning against me and speaking empty words that will never come to passe?"
In Hebrew it says "umim" Malbim points out that "umim" indicates organised groups of people with mutual political or religious beliefs.
They gather and turn against Israel. Something we have seen over the centuries with different religions or political systems that prefer not to see Israel in her greatness.
These groups of people are proud and haughty and think and speak from their pride and haughtiness, thinking that they are in control. But all words are hollow.
Today is Rosh HaShanah the day of judgement on individuals, on communities and on nations.
The Sages said (On Psalm 82:5) concerning the nations, it will be said then - on Rosh Hashanah:
"Which for the sword and which for peace, which for famine and which for prosperity".
The negative expressions of the nations are a consequence of their negative and erroneous judgment of G-d's nation. Their judgment is unjust; they do not know and understand what they are saying. However, G-d's judgment is righteous. He judges His people positively and laughs at the useless judgment of the nations. Therefore G-d judges the nations. Those who bless Israel are blessed, the opposite for those who do not bless Israel.
