Praise Him with Your Heart and Glory!

For October 18, 2022

Tehillim 108:2

נָכ֣וֹן לִבִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים אָשִׁ֥ירָה וַ֝אֲזַמְּרָ֗ה אַף־כְּבוֹדִֽי׃

"G-d, throughout this long exile, my heart is steadfast in its trust that You will redeem us. Then, I will sing and play music in praise of You with all my being, even my soul/ glory".

You can read this verse quite literally that G-d will redeem the people of Israel out of the sea of the nations and bring them back to her land. The nation will rejoice and we Noahides with them.

The interpretation I saw in the verse was, that our souls (of every human being) went into exile when they descended into this body. Cut loose from its original existence.

The soul of every human beïng is so important. (kavod). Because our soul is a little piece of G_d. Our "soul" is what distinguishes us humans from animals. It is that which allows us to connect in a relationship with G-d. Our soul, connected to the Eternal, shines like a light in night. The soul shines when she recognises that she is in exile, far away from her original existence, far away from the closeness of G-d.

She feels the distance and realises her nothingness but at the same time her capacity for tremendous growth. The potential for growth is there, the will to grow is there. From the moment that will is there, she will grow because G-d will nurture her. As a result, self-love and self-interest will shrink and love for G-d and for His creation will grow, then the soul will be liberated from its exile.

Then not only will the heart sing - the knowledge that one is liberated by G-d, but also the soul - the essence of man with all his attributes will give glory to G-d in the recognition that it is He alone who gives the soul glory and redemption.
