Topic A Gentile would... -- image of G-d!
The foundation of faith is to know and acknowledge G-d as supremacy and sovereign G-d. It is therefore logical, and appropriate, to show reverence and respect for G-d.
Respecting G-d also means not using His Name in vain or in a blasphemous statement.
It is forbidden to misuse in any language:
- To misuse one of G-d's Names as it appears in the Tenach - for example; Ado-nai
- Or one of His attributes - for example; the Creator
- Or one of the terms referring to His attributes - for example, the Merciful
It is logical that when we respect G-d we should also respect His creatures. Especially man, who is created in His image.
It is for this reason that we may not curse people.
The importance of the above is shown in the fact that man is normally judged by his deeds. In the case of blasphemy, man is judged by his words.
