Modeh Ani, An Overlooked Prayer
By Jelena Derosa
"I give thanks to you, living and everlasting King, who in mercy has restored my soul within me, great is your faith in me."
We say this blessing everyday the second our eyes open to thank our Creator for returning our neshama to us. How often do we stop to really meditate on all of the words in this blessing? I will be honest and say that many mornings, I just recite it without much thought. I realized how much I've been missing out on the beauty of these words.
Recently, it struck me on how amazing this blessing is and I try my best to say it with full kavana as all other prayers/blessings.
3 separate thank you's:
Hashem has restored your soul within you!!! B'H one of the biggest blessings he gives us!
He was merciful knowing we will still make sins, but he brought it back anyway.
Lastly, he has faith in US. Not that we have faith in him, but that he has faith in us! WOW. That is so beautiful. He knows he will do much good so he rewards us with more time on this earth. We can feel proud that Hashem is our loving parent cheering us on having so much faith in us. That feels so good, so encouraging, so motivating, so refreshing.
Thank him every morning by meditating on the words and make today an even better one knowing Hashem has faith in you that he gave you back your soul!
Thank you Hashem for your mercy and unconditional love. For having faith in us when we don't always have as much faith in you. Forgive us for our lack of faith at times and thank you for not losing faith in us because of it.
