Jane and Basil Andrews, The Path of Return
By Jane Andrews, a Faithfull Bat Noah from Malasya
Our journey of return, back to HaShem, His Torah and the Jewish People.
Shalom to those who are reading this article!
I have been an observant Noahide for close to 10 years now. In the past couple of years, my husband and I have been learning with the Noahide Academy and taking weekly classes from Rabbi Moshe Perets.
I would like to share our story on how we became observant Noahides – our journey from darkness to light.
I will keep the long story short. We were fervent ch'ristians for decades and sufficiently well-versed in the ch'ristian bible. As leaders in the local church, we led a young youth group. My husband would from time to time be scheduled to deliver Sunday sermons. In preparing to teach, we often sought the Hebrew translation for certain words or phrases to see what was the original intent of the verses or passages.
Over time, we came to discover many eye-opening revelations. Our excitement in learning the Hebrew text was obviously stumped by our inability to read Hebrew. Although our home library was stocked with easily over a thousand Christian books and references, it could not satisfy our deep hunger to know more. As the Internet became increasingly accessible, we began searching for more information online. The more we researched, the more discrepancies we discovered in the New Testament. The so-called truths just did not line up with the Torah. As this is not the platform, I will not list them here but even if one verse contradicts another, it is already enough to set the alarm bells ringing. The Torah is Truth and no one is allowed to add or to subtract from it.
There were so many questions and we struggled to come to terms with the fact that our faith was being challenged to the core. We prayed for G-d’s direction and intervention. But where does one look for answers? One simply needed to go to the source. G-d revealed Himself to the Jews, so naturally, that was our next direction.
It is recorded in Zechariah 8:23, “Thus said HaShem, Master of Legions: In those days it will happen that ten men, of all the languages of the nations will take hold, they will take hold of the corner of the garment of a Jewish man, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that G-d is with you.’”
We decided that was precisely what we should do. But where do we start? We prayed and asked G-d to show us and lead us. We needed to take the first step, trusting that in His infinite chesed /kindness, G-d will point us to the path that we should take. Subsequently, our family made the life-changing decision to leave church, leave christianity and follow Judaism. In essence, to be observant Noahides, to learn Torah truths and to keep the Seven Noahide Commandments. Apart from learning from a few notable rabbis, we also registered for a course to learn from the Noahide Nations. Additionally, we accessed a wealth of resources from Chabad, Jews for Judaism and Divine Information.
If we endeavour to search for the Truth, G-d will most certainly assist and guide us because that is exactly what the Almighty G-d wants us to do – to return to Him; to worship the G-d of Avraham, Yitzhak and Yaakov. Thus, began our journey to wholly accept, embrace and uphold the yoke of the Kingship of Heaven.
A journey of return to Ribono Shel Olam, the Master of the Universe.
A journey to be counted as Chassidei Umos HaOlam, the righteous of the nations.
A journey walking in the truth of the Torah, performing acts of righteousness and kindness, and refining our character.
Thank you, HaShem! Baruch HaShem!
