Daily Verse: Tehillim Psalms 66:3

Thursday 12 Tevet 5783 (05.01.23)

How Awesome are Your Deeds!

"Say to Elokim: How awesome are Your deeds! You redeemd a weak nation from a far mor powerful nation. Because of their fear of Your abundant strength, Your enemies will lie to You - they will deny that they ever sinned against You."

It is the recurring theme: people are afraid of G-d and therefore dare not take responsibility. We saw it with Adam, we saw it with Cain, we see it with the people around us. When you address people on a point of improvement, most people immediately get defensive.

So too with the nations. They have seen what G-d does for Israel and that He is faithful to them. They have experienced His punishments - to turn the nations around in their ways. The famines, the earthquakes, the epidemics, the global warming. However, instead of acknowledging that they made mistakes, they denied the mistakes, lying to themselves and to HaShem.

But how hopeful is the following verse:

"All people of the earth will bow and sing to You at the time of the Redemption; they will sing praises to Your Name forever."

People learn to recognise that everything from HaShem is for the better, including that which has been perceived as negative. That He punished so that people would return.

When that realisation comes, when one recognises that HaShem is good, then one is no longer afraid to confess sins. Then one bows before HaShem and will praise and worship Him.
