Having a Nose Job? Yes or No?

Divine Code for December 23, 2022

Today: Page 365

Topic Chapter 6:5 - 6:8

It is permitted to cause harm to a body in order to heal or enhance the body - such as surgery done to heal a sick person, or even plastic surgery for purposes of beautification.

Note that the question here is whether you should be allowed to hurt someone for that reason. That is a different question from whether you should want to undergo plastic surgery.

The body of a person is not self-possesed, and a person therefore has no right to harm himself without due reason.

There are authorities that are strictly against plastic surgery and there are those that are more open to it. The compromise reached is that cosmetic surgery is allowed to remove an abnormality, if there is a serious psychological need, or to enable a happy marriage or decent existence; but forbidden if it is just for beauty or convenience.
