Don't Sabotage Yourself

“The earth brought forth…trees…” (Genesis 1:12).

The Midrash (Breishis Rabbah 5:9) tells us that when iron was created, the trees began to panic, fearing that the sharp blade of an axe could destroy them. G-d reassured them: If you won’t allow your wood to be used for the axe handle, the blade itself can do you no harm! Of course the message for us is to avoid sabotaging ourselves in life, as we are often our own worst enemies.
