Come, Listen to the Words of Torah

For September 28, 2022

Deuteronomy 31:12

"Gather the people—men, women, children, and the strangers in your communities—that they may hear and so learn to revere your G-d and to observe faithfully every word of this Teaching."

Ibn Ezra points out that the foreigners must also come to hear. When they hear the words, then they can learn from them. He points out that when they hear they will perhaps convert to Judaism.

It says in the text that these foreigners live in the city, that can only be so if they have taken on the 7 Noahidean Laws.

So when once in 7 years the king reads the whole Torah publicly, the Noahides must also be there, so that we can hear the Holy Words of the Torah and so that we can learn from them.

(Note that it is not necessary or obligatory for a Noahid to convert to Judaism, only when his soul calls him to it).
