A Person is what He is Longing for
By Rabbi Michael Skobac
“A man found him (Joseph) lost in the field. The man asked him: What are you seeking?” (Genesis 37:15).
According to the Midrash, the man who Joseph encountered was the angel Gabriel. This agent of Hashem imparted an extremely vital message. Whenever you find yourself floundering on life’s paths and your soul is feeling lost, you must get in touch with what you really desire and yearn for in life. Then you’ll be able to return to your journey.
Rebbe Nachman of Breslov would say: A person is not what he knows; a person is not what he does. A person is what he is longing for.
